About James Barker

Twenty-six years selling enterprise technology into banks, lenders, payment companies, and insurers. Five different leadership and CRO roles inside FS-tech — learning what actually closes when the buyer is regulated, audited, and procurement-led.

At Backbase, I founded the UK sales operation. We took it from one person — me — to a team of around thirty, and I personally signed what was, at the time, the largest deal in the company's history: a $20 million expansion with a tier-one European bank. The company is now a unicorn.

Then Mambu. I led the Western European go-to-market through the run from $8 million ARR to north of $50 million. Roughly half of that growth came through teams I built and deals I closed. Another unicorn.

What I learned across both is what GTM Hive is built on. Selling into financial services is its own sport — the cycles are longer, the procurement is real, the buyer has to convince three committees you don't get to see, and your champion can be re-orged out from under you on a Tuesday. None of the generic SaaS playbooks work, and most of the sales training the industry sells assumes a buyer that doesn't exist in this category.

Hundreds of sellers have come through the training. The clients in the logos across the rest of the site are the proof. If any of that sounds like your world, drop me a note.
